A researcher is working on a book about film schools. Confused by the lack of bibliography on the subject, he decides to take a trip to compare testimonies of students and school directors from different parts of the world. Although the researcher does not make much progress with his project, Open Doors unfolds a comparison between cinematographic and educational traditions of different countries, in a play of contrasts between different ways of thinking, teaching and making cinema.
